PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that, in a walk-type tiller in which an engine and a tilling unit are placed respectively diagonally to the upper front and the lower front of a transmission case, the mounting place of the engine becomes high, and this causes poor balance during running, needs physical strength for operation, and generates instability in tilling depth and unevenness of tilled base due to the vertical motion of the front end of the machine body. SOLUTION: A front rotary tiller having the following structure. A tilling shaft 1 is placed at the front end of a transmission case 3 long in the longitudinal direction in a laterally protruding manner, a wheel shaft 2 is placed at the rear end of the transmission case 3 in a laterally protruding manner, and a rotary tilling unit and driving wheels are placed on the shafts, respectively. In an engine 4 which is mounted above the longitudinally middle part of the transmission case, a supporting frame 5, in which shafts 6 and 7 are placed on the upper and lower parts, a downward loading guide arm 9 is placed around the upper shaft 6, and a vertically swingable pulling lever 8 is placed around the lower shaft 7, is attached on the rear part of the transmission case 3. By the operation of the guide arm 9, the pulling lever 8 is switched between a hung-up fixed posture A and pulling swingable posture B. A groove-forming unit is attached on the rear part of the pulling lever 8.
