PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a KAVA root extract having new pharmacological effect found out in dried root powder of KAVA which is a kind of plants belonging to Piperaceae, or the extract obtained from the KAVA roots. SOLUTION: This KAVA root dried powder or the extract from KAVA roots is such as to have TNF-α production inhibitory effect; wherein an oral composition containing effective levels of the KAVA root dried powder or the KAVA root extract is useful for prophylaxis of various diseases caused by TNF-α production, or useful for amelioration thereof.
