PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic-substance-containing functional material which can remove efficiently injurious compounds and the like and is excellent in durability, and a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: The catalytic-substance-containing functional material is formed by allowing a catalytic substance, by way of agglomeration/precipitation with a polyvalent metallic ion, to be carried on the surface or in the vicinity of the inorganic ion exchanger of an inorganic ion exchanger-hydrophilic polymer composite that has an inorganic ion exchanger in the body of a hydrophilic polymer substrate.
