HEAVY METAL SCAVENGER AND SCAVENGING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive natural resource-based heavy metal scavenger capable of stably bringing heavy metals in industrial wastes, especially in water, to be harmless and having little influence to the environment by using a chelating action of phytic acid. SOLUTION: This heavy metal scavenger contains phytic acid and an alkaline earth metal and its aqueous solution has a pH of <=4. This method for scavenging the heavy metals is to add the aforesaid heavy metal scavenger to a heavy metal-containing solution, subsequently adjust the Ph of the solution to 5-10; add a water soluble phytic acid containing an alkaline earth metal as a salt- constituting metal to a heavy metal-containing solution, adjust the solution to <= pH 4, subsequently readjust the solution to pH 5-10; or add a phytic acid and/or acid and an alkaline earth metal-containing alkali and/or salt, adjust the solution to <= pH 4, subsequently readjust the solution to pH 5-10.
