PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems: casings for portable electronic devices made of light-weighted materials such as a polycarbonate resin and an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) resin are generally easy to catch fire; and when a mixture of a resin agent and a flame retarding agent composed of microcapsules containing a phosphorus compound is used for solving this problem, the casings will become heavier owing to the use of the phosphorus compound, and the phosphorus compound will emit a poisonous gas or phosphorus pentoxide on combustion. SOLUTION: This flame retardant resin composition is composed of a thermoplastic resin and hollow particles containing carbon dioxide as a flame retarding agent. It is suitable for manufacturing casings for apparatuses.
