PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing pyran-2-ones important as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals, etc., and an additive for a heat-sensitive paper at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for producing pyran-2-ones is characterized by treating one or more kinds of carbonyl-CoA compounds with a cultured substance of a microorganism containing a polyketide synthetic enzyme gene, a microbial cell or a treated substance of the microbial cell and converting the carbonyl-CoA compounds into the pyran-2-ones represented by general formula (I) or general formula (II) [wherein R1, R2 and R3 denote each a proton or a 1-8C saturated or a 1-8C unsaturated alkyl group; R1, R2 and R3 each may be same or different]. |
