A fitting for a high wattage electric lamp, e.g. an incandescent filament lamp containing iodine, or a discharge tube, having at least one seal, is provided with means for cooling the seal including a heat conducting member which resiliently engages the lamp seal. In one form, the lamp consists of a parabolic reflector closed at the front by a glass plate and supported on pivots on legs bolted to a bar. Cooling fins are provided on the exterior of the reflector. The lamp is carried by clips 230, 231 which engage the seals 402, 403 at the ends of the lamp, the clips being made of red copper and secured by rivets of red copper to a backplate 2 which is pivoted at the rear of the reflector and provided with cooling fins 225. The reflector has a slot at the rear through which the lamp is inserted in the reflector. In a modification, the lamp seals are gripped between plates urged towards one another by a spring. The plates are carried by a support secured to the lamp housing. In a further modification, metal plates are secured to the support, pass out through a heatinsulating bushing in the housing and are separated at the outside to provide heat dissipating surfaces. |
