PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package of glass substrates and a method for packaging them, which prevents surface properties or the like from being changed during the period of the transportation, the storage or the like of the glass substrates for magnetic disks even in the case where the transportation, storage, etc., require a long time. SOLUTION: The glass substrates for magnetic disks are packaged and tightly closed with a packaging member having water vapor barrier properties whose water vapor transmission rate is at most 5 g/.day, in such a state that a portion forming a magnetic recording layer on each glass substrate is held by a holding member so as not to be brought into contact with the magnetic recording layers of other glass substrates.
