PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capping method and a capping apparatus capable of performing the stable capping operation of a metal container easy to generate deformation while preventing the deformation or damage of the container. SOLUTION: The capping apparatus CM is equipped with first and second cappers S1, S2 capable of forming a thread groove N to the peripheral surface M of cap C. The thread groove N is formed by pressing the roller 26 of the first capper S1 to the peripheral surface M of the cap C by predetermined force and subsequently pressing the roller 26 of the second capper S2 to the cap along the pressed place by predetermined force to tumble the same. Therefore, the force is allowed to act on container B stepwise to prevent the deformation of the mouth part 2 of the container B.
