PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method for a new microorganism with high productivity of a polyhydroxyalkanoate having phenyl groups as a substituent of the side chain, and to provide a method for preparing a polyhydroxyalkanoate composed of a monomer unit derived from 3-hydroxy-6- phenylhexanoic acid which uses the microorganism. SOLUTION: This method comprises the following process: a new microorganism, Pseudomonas putida N 210 strain (Pseudomonas putida N210; FERM P-17744) is cultured in a medium containing 6-phenylhexanoic acid, and then a polythydroxyalkanoate composed mainly of the monomer unit which is represented by chemical formula (1) is prepared by extracting the polyhydroxyalkanoate accumulated in the bacteria.
