PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color liquid crystal display apparatus provided with a light emitting diode having a fluorescent substance radiating in a good red color region at high brightness. SOLUTION: The light emitting diode 6, which is prepared by covering a gallium nitride semiconductor tip 13 placed in a case 11 with a luminous layer 14 containing the fluorescent substance, is placed on the circumference of an emission board 5. A diffuser is placed on the front surface where the color liquid crystal panel 3 is laminated, and a reflection sheet is placed on the back surface of the emission board 5. The light emitting diode 6 is a semiconductor tip 13 having the peak wave length of >=310 nm and <=530 nm. The fluorescent substance is expressed by the general formula: (Y1-x, Gdx)3(Al1-y, Gay)5O12: Cez, Prw (wherein, 0<=x<=0.5, 0<=y<=0.5, 0.001<=z<=0.5 and 0.001<=w<=0.5). By composing the substrate of YAG having a garnet structure, and containing Ce as an activator and Pr as a co-activator, the fluorescent substance generates a luminescence peak in red color region at a sufficient brightness and radiates excellently in red color region. Liquid crystal display having an improved red brightness is realized. |
