PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circular or square sedimentation basin capable of ensur ing the stable operativity of a sludge scraping-up apparatus inclusive of a scraping-up mechanism. SOLUTION: In the circular or square sedimentation basin equipped with a scum removing device, a solid or pipe-shaped scraping-up support shaft rotationally driven so that the axis thereof is turned in the diameter direction of the basin and a plurality of scum scraping-up plates arranged so as to be individually rotated in the longitudinal direction of the scraping-up support shaft and provided with vertical return means not only to take a vertical scraping-up posture but also to become an avoiding posture by the contact with the scum removing device, the scraping-up support shaft is set so as to be capable of passing a track approaching the place to be contacted of the scum removing device to the utmost.
