PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process of 4-hydroxybiphenyl derivative that is safe and low cost. SOLUTION: In the production process of a 4-hydroxybiphenyl derivative shown by formula (1), a 2,6-substituted phenol derivative shown by formula (2) is reacted with a benzene halide derivative shown by formula (3) by coupling reaction with the base, at the first procedure, after the intermediate shown by formula (4) is prepared, the compound shown with formula (1) is produced by elimination of the substituent R4 and R5 of the intermediate with an acid generative material, at the second procedure. (In the formula, R1, R2 and R3 show hydrogen atom, fluorine atom, hydrocarbon, nitro group, cyano group, an aldehyde group or an alkanoyl group, R4 and R5 show an alkyl group, alkenyl group, aralkyl group or cycloalkyl group, X shows a halogen atom.).
