PURPOSE: A method for controlling third to first down-shifting before stoppage is provided to improve a shifting feeling and the durability of an automatic transmission by reducing a shifting shock in first down-shifting before stoppage. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling third to first down-shifting before stoppage comprises the steps of deciding the output of a third to first down-shifting control signal before stoppage(S110), synchronizing a speed range to a target speed range after outputting an initial duty by detecting a turbine rpm(S120-S140), and performing a duty correction if the synchronization is completed and outputting a specific gradient determined by quadrisection depending on a throttle opening degree(S150-S170).
