METHOD FOR REDUCING CONTAMINATION OF BRANCH PREDICTION TABLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the contamination of a branch prediction table which is equipped with a branch target buffer(BTB) for predicting a branch target and a branch address comparator connected to the BTB for calculating the branch target. SOLUTION: This method is constituted of a step 110 for predicting a branch target address by using a branch prediction structure 12, a step 120 for processing branch, a step 130 for calculating the actual branch target address, a step 140 for comparing the bits of the present instruction address with the bits of the actual branch target address which is not stored in the branch prediction structure, and a step 190 for storing a part of the actual branch address in the branch prediction structure when the compared results are made coincident with each other.
