PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel and its drive method capable of keeping a low discharge maintenance voltage and substantially improving the light-emitting efficiency, as compared with conventional ones. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel of an AC plane-discharge type is provided with a first electrode 12a and a second electrode 12b, covered with the dielectric layer 13 and formed in parallel with each other on the front glass base plate 11. A third electrode 22 is provided on a rear glass base plate 21, and a discharge space is produced by a partition board partitioning both base plates. The discharge gas is one of a mixture, containing a xenon of 5 vol.% or more and of less than 100 vol.% and set to the xenon partial pressure of 2 kPa or higher. Then, the clearance (maintenance discharge gap) between the pair-forming first electrode 12a and the second electrode 12b is designated at a larger height than that of the discharge space (opposed discharge gap).
