PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode-ray manufacturing method and a cathode-ray tube, capable of improving the magnetic characteristic by enlarging the contact area between a shadow mask and a retainer. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for a cathode-ray tube comprises a manufacturing process for forming a manufacturing face 3a, provided so as to remove the upper part of the retainer 3 under the condition that a compressive strength is added to the frame 1 in such a direction that the retainer 3 fall toward the inside, and a welding process to weld the shadow mask to the manufacturing face 3a under the condition that almost the same compressive strength as that for the manufacturing process is added to such direction as the retainer 3 falls toward the inside. The manufacturing face 3a is located substantially flush with the face 3a under the condition that the compressive strength for the manufacturing process be impressed thereto. As the contact area between the shadow mask and the retainer 3 is enlarged owing to this, the magnetic resistance of field-lines entering the direction of the cathode-ray tube axis decreases, so that the landing deviation of the electron beam is reduced and that the color reproduction property becomes satisfactory.
