PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excitation control unit and an excitation control method which can control a generator terminal voltage to be nearly equal to a rated value and control a voltage of a transmission bus to be constant, without having to detect the voltage of the transmission bus. SOLUTION: This excitation control unit is equipped with a reactive current detector 9 for detecting a reactive current outputted from a synchronous machine 1 connected with a transmission system 6 via an on-load tap changing transformer 2, a tap ratio setting device 4 for setting a tap ratio of the transformer 2 according to a terminal voltage of the synchronous machine 1, a voltage-setting device 10 for setting a voltage on the synchronous machine 1 side of the transformer 2, on the basis of an aimed voltage of the transmission system 6 side of the transformer 2, the tap ratio set by the setting device 4, and a reactive current detected by the detector 9, and control devices 12, 13 for controlling an excitation system 14 of the synchronous machine 1, on the basis of the voltage set by the setting device 10. |
