PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position adjusting device for an optical modulator capable of adjusting objects to be adjusted having different-sized projected images without limiting the installation position of a detecting device. SOLUTION: The position adjusting device 2 for the optical modulator for adjusting the mutual positions of plural modulators constituting a projector is provided with the adjusting device main body 30 on which the object to be adjusted 170 is placed, a transmission type screen 53 on which the enlarged and projected image of the object to be adjusted 170 is formed, and the detecting device 55 which is arranged behind the transmission type screen 53 and which can be moved by a moving mechanism 57. The detecting device 55 is arranged behind the transmission type screen 53, then, the detecting device 55 is prevented from becoming an obstacle to the optical path of the projected image, and the degree of freedom in terms of the installation position of the detecting device 55 is increased, besides, the moving mechanism 57 is installed, then, the device is adaptable to plural kinds of object to be adjusted 17 having the different-sized projected images.
