PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rise and fall ladder device for a construction machine capable of stabilizing the ladder at a fall position to which the ladder is pulled down and a housing position to which the ladder is moved up and easily manipulating the changeover operation to respective positions. SOLUTION: The ladder device is provided with a guide section 10 installed in a car body frame 5 and a ladder 11 set so as to be vertically movable in the guide section 10. A fixing rod 31 is resiliently engaged in an engaging part 33 in the downward movement by the urging force of a spring when the ladder 11 reaches the lower limit position, and it is resiliently engaged with the engagement part 32 in the housing movement by the urging force of the spring 35. The rear end part of the fixing rod 31 is connected to one end of a rotary arm 36. The rotary arm 36 is swung against the urging force of the spring 35 by the upward pull of the unlocking upper manipulating member 26 and/or the downward pull of the unlocking lower manipulating member 27 and further, the fixing rod 31 is moved to the direction reverse to the ladder to unlock the ladder, when the ladder 11 reaches the upper limit position.
