<p>Bilges are inevitably produced in any ship's engine room, main and auxiliary ship spaces and holds with fuel, oil or grease containers, and are collected at floor or in collecting canals from where they are pumped out of the ship. The bilge processing plant where there is conducted the process of obtaining hydrophobic powder with calcium-based additives, which plant consists of pressure piping, powering unit for processing with dosers, worm conveyors (11), dust storage containers (12), waste mill (5) and press (13), the entire bilges with the sludge and other matters usually contained in them are turned into dry hydrophobic powder of adequate ecological purity or into compressed blocks or briquettes, which can be used industrially in building material industry, especially as a hydro-insulating material, or as a fuel additive, or as an additive for constructing protective barriers against influence of toxic, hazardous, poisonous and radioactive materials, and also as a technological material in industry, cement factories, lime factories, etc. Steam, that is also produced in the above process, is taken to behind the ship engine muffler into the engine smoke duct, or can also be used in heat exchangers for production of warm sanitary water. Because of its alkaline properties, steam decreases the sulphur, carbon and nitrogen concentrations in the smoke gases produced by burning the ship engine fuels.</p> |
