PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data base production method and its system which can considerably reduce the labor and time required for producing a still picture data base. SOLUTION: When it is decided that a camera 5 photographs a prescribed structure according to the position data received from a car navigation 2 or when a switch 7 is operated, a controller 4 transmits a control signal to a DVD recorder 3. The recorder 3 receives the control signal and performs the I picture encoding of a frame image contained in the input and records this image in a DVD-RAM 10. A computer system 11 produces a still picture data base in the DVD-RAM 10 by using the I picture encoded image.
