PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can move to a demonstration mode where the various functions of the apparatus are demonstrated with a simple operation. SOLUTION: A trigger means generates a start trigger signal indicating the instruction of the start of photographing by the key operation of a user and supplies it to a control means. A detection means detects the presence or absence of a recording medium and supplies a detection signal indicating a result to a control means. The control means supplies a first control signal to a feature means and a second control signal to a recorder means in accordance with the supplied start trigger and detection signal. An image pickup means picks up the image of an object and supplies a video signal to the feature means. The feature means performs effect processing on a video signal in accordance with the supplied first control signal and supplies the resultant signal to the recorder means. The recorder means highly efficiently encodes the video signal supplied from the feature means and records the signal in the recording medium.
