PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a reading error from being caused to image data and excessive load from being caused to the driving source of a film carrying mechanism by detecting that the movement of a film holder is restricted. SOLUTION: The film carrying mechanism 10 carries the film holder 11 holding film M along a main body 17. A movement detection pattern 11b is bored on the holder 11. The pattern 11b is read by a line sensor 30 for reading an image recorded on the film M. When the change of the pattern 11b detected by the sensor 30 is not found in a state where the mechanism 10 is driven, a user judges that the holder 11 is not carried.
