PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize weight saving and low power consumption of a picture display device observable with both eyes, by integrating two illumination systems for illuminating right and left image display elements uniformly into a single and common illumination system. SOLUTION: In the picture display device equipped with a picture display element 2R for right eye and a picture display element 2L for left eye which project separately the display pictures of a picture display element 3R for right eye and a picture display element 3L for left eye to observer's right and left eye, respectively, the picture display elements for right eye and for left eye are composed of transmission type picture display elements which display a picture by passing illuminating light, and beam which illuminates the picture display element 3R for right eye and the picture display element 3L for left eye is luminous flux which divergent light from a common single light source 6 are divided to right and left by a illuminating light dividing optical system 1. |
