PURPOSE: A method for preparing perfluoroethane (C2F6) is provided, to obtain the compound in milder condition without using the inert gas, thereby improving the conversion rate and the purity. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of reacting CoF2 with a fluorine gas in a reactor to obtain CoF3; reacting the fluorine gas unreacted and left in the reactor with sulfur (S) to obtain SF6, and removing SF6 for removing the unreacted fluorine gas; and reacting fluoroethane (C2FxHy, wherein x is equal to or larger than 1, y is equal to or larger than 6, and x+y=6) with CoF3 at 300-350 deg.C to obtain perfluoroethane. Preferably the fluoroethane is selected from 1,1,1-trifluoro-2,2-difluoroethane, 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-fluoroethane and 1,1,1-trifluoroethane.
