PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent irregularity in colors caused by irregular thickness of a liquid crystal layer in a liquid crystal display device which uses an IPS method. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device consists of a TFT array substrate produced by forming scanning signal lines, video signal lines, thin film transistors, electrodes for driving a liquid crystal, a common electrode and common signal lines on a substrate, a counter substrate facing the TFT array substrate, a first spacer to keep a uniform gap between the substrates, a second spacer to keep a uniform gap in the peripheral part of the substrates, a sealing material present together with the second spacer in the gap between the substrates to laminate the peripheral part of the substrates, and a liquid crystal layer. The retardation (Δ n).(dmax-dmin) in the plane of the display device ranges >=0 nm and <=20 nm. |
