PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reproduction device where a reproduction speed in a special reproduction mode can be adjusted in matching with a motion of a scene and to provide an image reproduction method. SOLUTION: The image reproduction device 1000 is provided with a decoder 100 to decode an MPEG video, a display circuit 300, a special reproduction designation section 400 to designate it that a reproduced processing is displayed at a higher or lower speed than the speed in a usual reproduction mode (special reproduction mode), and a control section 500 that adjusts a reproduction speed in the special reproduction mode. The control section 500 calculates a motion quantity of each frame on the basis of a motion vector received from the decoder 100. The reproduction speed can be adjusted by the moving quantity.
