<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel economy by quickly shifting the engine operation point to provide necessary generation of power, even when the necessary generation of power changes and therefore the engine operation point must be shifted to the high output side in a series hybrid vehicle. SOLUTION: When the engine operation point used for power generation shifts to the high output side due to the change of demanded power generation, it is determined whether the shift of engine operation point should be assisted, depending on the positional relationship between the current engine operation point and the target optimum engine operation point to be shifted. When it is determined that the shift of engine operation point is to be shifted, a prescribed assist torque is given to the engine with a motor/generator for the prescribed period. The assist torque lowers a motor torque, which is a tentative load on the engine from the motor to quickly shift the engine operation point, using an extra engine torque for the load.</p> |
