PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for providing various alarming functions while utilizing existent facilities without increasing the cost. SOLUTION: This gas monitoring/alarming system is composed of a gas meter provided with an alarming device composed of a gas meter and an alarm, and a center device. When information desired to send from the center device is transmitted to the gas meter as a telegraphic message for alarm signal output, the gas meter converts the signal into coded one and transmits the correspondent coded signal to the alarm. Corresponding to the received coded signal, the alarm outputs voice such as 'please stop gas', for example, or a buzzer sound. By binary-coding the signal to be transmitted to the alarm, the alarming signal can be easily transmitted and the information item of the alarming signal can be increased.
