PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the predicting precision of an arithmetic unit and a branch predicting method and an information processor for operating branch prediction when a branch instruction is issued. SOLUTION: This arithmetic unit for operating branch prediction according to a branch instruction, and for updating the transition probabilities of the branch prediction according to the success/failure of the branch instruction is provided with a switching detecting means for detecting that the process of the processing is switched and an initializing means for initializing the branch prediction information when it is detected that the process is switched by the switching detecting means.
