摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffraction optical device in which more densely diffracted light can be obtained without increasing the size of the unit pattern consisting of an irregular rugged surface which forms the diffraction plane. SOLUTION: This diffraction optical device has at least one kind of unit pattern consisting of an irregular rugged surface which constitutes the diffraction plane and is formed by repeatedly arranging the unit patterns in a large numbers. As for the unit pattern, unique unit patterns having the same irregular rugged surface are used in a large number, and the unit patterns are arranged in such a manner that some unit patterns are in a different direction from others by 180 deg. rotation or the like to form a mixed state of patterns. Or, one unit pattern has a plurality of kinds of elements having different rugged surfaces, and different unit patterns have the same kinds of elements but different relative arrangement of elements to produce different rugged surfaces of the patterns from each other.
