PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely discriminate whether each part of a picture is a binary picture or a gradation picture in a method and device for discriminating a picture attribute. SOLUTION: A block attribute discriminating part 2 divides the picture into block sizes equal to or larger than the degree of a visual size to discriminate the attribute of a block by each block. When block attribute discriminating result shows the binary picture or the gradation picture, the attribute of each pixel in the block is discriminated to be the binary picture of the gradation picture similarly to the discriminating result. When block attribute discriminating result shows an intermediate picture which is neither the binary picture nor the gradation picture, the pixel feature extraction part 30 of a pixel attribute discriminating part 3 extracts feature by each pixel in the block. When the feature looks like the binary picture, a pixel attribute discriminating means 40 discriminates the attribute of the pixel to be the binary picture and when the feature does not look like the binary picture, the means 40 discriminates the attribute of the pixel to be the gradation picture. |
