PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter that can realize stable initial charge of a smoothing capacitor by reducing power loss. SOLUTION: A converter 1 is structured with a pure bridge circuit or a mixed bridge circuit, initial charge of a smoothing capacitor is executed via a resistor R0, when the AC power supply is turned on by connecting in parallel the resistor R0 to a positive side or negative side thyristor T1 of at least the desired phase of the converter 1. Therefore, when the initila charging of the smoothing capacitor 2 is completed, the thyristors T1 to T3 forming the converter 1 are caused to perform diode operations. |
