FLUORIDE GLASS WAVEGUIDE AND METHOD FOR MAKING FLUORIDE GLASS WAVEGUIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluoride glass waveguide with which downsizing and function complexing are possible as compared with a fiber type without processing fluoride glass. SOLUTION: A charge type waveguide formed with a core layer having a refractive index higher than the refractive index of a substrate on the substrate and formed with a charge part consisting of a dielectric substance on its surface is formed. The essential component of this core layer is formed of the fluoride glass. In making the fluoride glass waveguide, a dry process treatment is executed without using water and aqueous solution in all manufacturing stages or a dielectric layer is formed to the ends of the core layer and is subjected to the wet process treatment.
