PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to use plural telephone numbers without especially modifying the telephone set. SOLUTION: A telephone exchange which connects a call originating side and a destination so that they can speak to each other, is provided with a peculiar telephone number storage means 3a where a telephone number peculiar to a telephone set is stored, a virtual telephone number storage means 3b where at least one virtual telephone number related to the peculiar telephone number is stored, a comparison means 4 which compares the telephone number of the destination with virtual telephone number stored in the virtual telephone number storage means 3b, and a conversion means 5. When the telephone number of the destination coincides with one of virtual telephone numbers in the comparison means 4, the conversion means reads a peculiar telephone number related to this coinciding telephone number from peculiar telephone numbers stored in the peculiar telephone number storage means 3 and takes this read peculiar telephone number for the telephone number of the destination.
