PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of securing color purity and brightness in spite of low ambient temperatures due to the use in cold districts and in outdoors. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device displaying in color by a field sequential system, wherein liquid crystal display elements are irradiated with each color light by time sequentially driving the liquid crystal elements with individual R, G, B video signals by field sequential scanning, and time sequentially switching the corresponding light source for each color R, G, B in synchronization with the driving period of the video signals, is provided with a temperature detecting means for detecting ambient temperatures, and based on the detected temperatures and according to decrease in temperature, the device adjusts a unit radiating time of each color light R, G, B shorter, or increases intensity of irradiation synchronizing with the shortening of the irradiation time, or lengthens the driving period.
