PURPOSE: A respective liquid crystal display having a reduced dispersion property with respect to a wideband visible ray is to enhance a reflective ratio and a contrast ratio, thereby improving a picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A variable phase plate includes a polarized plate(1), a reflective plate, a fixed phase plate disposed between the polarized plate and the reflective plate, and a liquid crystal. At a normal state of the phase plate, delta nd value is half wavelength and quarter wavelength with respect to a specific wavelength. When an electric field is applied to the liquid crystal, the delta nd value is zero. The phase plate is disposed in a sequence of the first phase plate(4) having the delta nd value of half wavelength and the second phase plate(5) having the quarter wavelength. The specific wavelength is 550 nanometer, and a twisted angle of the variable phase plate is zero degree.
