PURPOSE: An apparatus for handling hard currency is provided which is used in automatic vending machines, money-changing machines and service instruments, and selectively receive injected hard currency according to types of money and issuing the selectively received hard currency into changes at the same time. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus(1) for handling metallic currency equipped with a hard currency discrimination means(4) discriminating whether injected currency is counterfeit money or not, and types of money of the specie, plural money type division means dividing the discriminated specie into separate hard currency passages according to the types of money, a hard currency reservation means which is installed at the lower part of the separate hard currency passages so as to temporarily reserve the hard currency guided to the separate hard currency passages and a hard currency reception means(5) consisting of plural coin tubes(7) for stacking and receiving hard currency falling from the hard currency reservation means, the apparatus further comprises a first division means which is installed at the lower part of the hard currency reservation means so as to divide the hard currency temporarily reserved by the hard currency reservation means into a return passage and the hard currency reception means; and a second division means which is installed at the lower part of the first division means so as to divide the hard currency divided into the hard currency reception means by the first division means into the hard currency reception means and a coffin.
