A reclosable thermoplastic storage bag (10) comprises a pair of opposed walls (II, 12) fabricated of thermoplastics material joined along a common bottom edge (25) and joined by common side seals (16, 17) along common side edges thereof and having adjacent top edges (23a, 23b) providing a mouth of the bag. A reclosable fastening member (14) is adjacent top edges (23a, 23b) and extends laterally between side seals (16, 17) of the bag. Fastening member (14) is selectively joinable to close the mouth of the bag. At least one of walls (11) has an inwardly folded expandable top pleat section (13) adjacent the top edge thereof provided by a double over portion of the one wall (11) that is inwardly folded against the one wall when bag (10) is in a collapsed condition. The expandable top pleat section (13) extends laterally across one wall (11) and has opposite edges thereof joined to the walls by common side seals (16, 17). Top pleat section (13) is unrestrained between the side seals and is selectively expandable in such manner as to effectively lengthen one wall (11) relative to the other (12) of the walls and thereby displace the reclosable fastening member from an initial position centrally between walls (II, 12) when the bag is in the collapsed condition to an offset position when the bag is in the expanded condition in which the reclosable fastening member (14) are bowed outwardly away from one wall (11) toward other wall (12).
