PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic emulsion having high sensitivity, good preservability and small dependency on processing and a photographic sensitive material using the emulsion. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic emulsion, >=70% of the total projected area of all grains is occupied by flat platy grains which are (i) silver iodochlorobromide grains each having (111) faces as principal surfaces, (ii) hexagonal grains each having a longest to shortest side ratio of <=2 and (iii) prefect epitaxial grains each having one epitaxial junction only at each of six apexes of the hexagon and having six epitaxial junctions in total and have (iv) 1-6 mol% silver chloride content and (v) 0.5-10 mol% silver iodide content.
