PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a forced air-cooled main motor for a vehicle, capable of coping with acceleration of a train by reducing the size and weight and increasing the rating. SOLUTION: A substantially trapezoidal heat shielding cylinder 12 is fixed at its base end to an inside of a side frame 1b of a stator 1A. A temperature rise of the frame 1b by cooling air raised its temperature by cooling a stator core 2, and a rotor core 4 is suppressed by the cylinder 12 to suppress the temperature rise of a roller bearing 8A inserted into a central part of the frame 1b. Since an allowed temperature rise value (55K) of the bearing is markedly lower than the allowed temperature rise value (180K) of a coil (H-type), the temperature of the bearing 8A is lowered so as to raise the conducting capacity and to reduce in size and weight of the motor.
