Continuous production of a hydrophilic polymer (C) from a hydrated gel polymer (GP) in which, before it is dried, GP is (i) cut into particles of predetermined size and/or (ii) surface-treated by an additive (D), with removal of any excess (D). An independent claim is also included for a device for performing the method in which the discharge zone of the reactor used to produce GP is fitted with blades to cut (GP) into particles of predetermined size.
