PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the erroneous detection of a tape end without increasing a cost in the case a case body is formed of a translucent material. SOLUTION: This tape cassette is so constituted that detecting light is emitted from a light emitting part of an information recording and reproducing device into the case body and that the detecting light from apertures on both left and right sides of the case body emerges outside the case boy and is made incident on the light receiving part of the information recording and reproducing device. The tape cassette is so formed that a tape-like medium having an information recording part for shading the detecting light and a tape end allowing the transmission of the detecting light crosses a detecting optical path near the apertures in the case body and that the tape end is detected by the detecting light. At least part of the case body is formed of the translucent material and the case body is provided with the shading plates 30 having holes 31 to allow the passage of the detecting light near the apertures on both right and left sides of the case body. The shading plates 30 on both right and left sides are injection molded goods having the equal external form shape and are mounted by changing the front and rear directions within the case body.
