PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader in which an optical unit can be more easily and surely fixed by a user after installation. SOLUTION: When a housing 41 is lifted up at the time of moving an image forming device, a lifting detection rod 9c is projected vertically downward by gravity from an aperture part 10. Thus, a turning arm 9b is turned left-handedly, and a holding arm 9a ascends in a vertical direction and holds a mirror unit 6. Since the unit 6 is coupled with a light source unit 5, an entire scanner optical system is fixed just by holding the unit 6. When the housing 41 is put on a base 42, the lower end of the rod 9c abuts on the upper surface of the base 42, so that it is pressed back into the housing 41. Thus, the arm 9b is turned right-handedly, and the arm 9a descends in the vertical direction and releases the fixing of the scanner optical system. Thus, a scanner 1 is automatically set to work.
