<p>A process for preparing a precursor of a poly(arylenevinylene) wherein some of the vinylene groups are replaced by ethylene groups which comprises subjecting a polymer which possesses recurring units of the formula -Ar-CHX-CHR3- wherein X represents a leaving group, Ar represents an arylene or heteroarylene group and R3 represents an alkyl group, to a radical reaction so as to eliminate some of the X groups is provided together with the polymer obtained thereby and those obtained from these precursors.</p> |
