The method involves a control unit checking whether a memory address was written into a memory area associated with an initial data element representing a control parameter for each access to a control parameter and, if so, accessing the new data in this area, otherwise accessing an initial data element. The method involves allocating each control parameter an initial data element, investigating the operating characteristic with the starting data element and allocating new data elements depending on the result. Each initial data element is stored in a programmable read-only memory and has an additional free address memory region. An addressable new data memory area is provided per new data element whose address is written into the address memory area of the associated initial data element. For each access to a control parameter the control unit checks whether a memory address was written into an associated memory area and, if so, accesses the new data in this area, otherwise it access the initial data element. |
