<p>A self-anchoring beach umbrella (10) comprising an umbrella canopy (12) and an umbrella pole (14). The umbrella pole (14) having an upper member (20) for supporting the canopy (12) and a lower member (50) for self-anchoring the umbrella (10) into a ground surface. The upper member (20) being an elongated tubular sleeve (20) having a first end (22) communicating with and supporting the umbrella canopy (12), an axial lumen (26) formed within the elongated tubular sleeve (20), and a second end (24) for receiving a pole standard into the axial lumen (26). The lower member (50) being a pole standard having a length, a first end (52) formed for insertion into the axial lumen (26) of the elongated tubular sleeve (20), and a second end (54) formed for anchoring into the ground surface. A hammer (40) is fixed to the elongated tubular sleeve (20). An anvil (60) is fixed to the pole standard (50) for receiving the axial force from the hammer (40) and transmitting it to the pole standard (50) to anchor the pole standard (50) into the ground surface.</p> |
