ENGINE ARRANGEMENT FOR BLOWERS AND BLOWER/VACUUMS

A Compact blower (10) is provided having a housing (12) defining an engine compartment (28), cooling air compartment (30), and a volute chamber (32) all coaxially aligned along a vertical axis (18). An internal combustion engine (14) is oriented within the engine compartment (28) with a vertically aligned output shaft (34) and a forward facing fin cylinder (42). The rotary impeller (16) is affixed to the engine output shaft (34) provided with a plurality of cooling air pump blades (56) projecting upward from a circular disc (58) and oriented within the cooling air pump compartment (30). The impeller (16) is further provided with a plurality of blower fan blades (60) which project outwardly into the volute chamber (32). The rotation of the impeller (16) causes air to be drawn into the volute chamber (32) and discharged through the blower air discharge port (54). Cooling air is drawn through the cooling air pump compartment (30) and directed across the engine (14) and cylinder (42) and ultimately discharged through an upper front portion (44) of the engine compartment (28) in a direction away from the operator.
