<p>Liquid crystal display contains nematic liquid crystal mixture comprising 30-90 weight% (wt.%) of liquid crystalline component (LCC) (A) comprising compound(s) with dielectric anisotropy of +1.5 or more, 10-55 wt.% of LCC (B) comprising compound(s) with dielectric anisotropy of -1.5 to +1.5 and 0-10 wt.% of LCC (D) comprising compound(s) with dielectric anisotropy of -1.5 or less, and specific compounds. Supertwisted nematic liquid crystal display nematic liquid crystal mixture comprising 30-90 weight% (wt.%) of liquid crystalline component (LCC) (A) comprising compound(s) having dielectric anisotropy of +1.5 or more, 10-55 wt.% of LCC (B) comprising compound(s) having dielectric anisotropy of -1.5 to +1.5, 0-10 wt.% of LCC (D) comprising compound(s) having dielectric anisotropy of -1.5 or less, and optically active component (C) in amount such that the ratio between layer thickness (separation of plane-parallel outer plates) and natural pitch of chiral nematic liquid crystal mixture is 0.2-1.3. The liquid crystal mixture comprises compound(s) of formula (IA) and compound(s) of component (A) of formula (IB). A pre-tilt angle between longitudinal axis of the molecules at the surface of the outer plates and outer plates of 1-30[deg], and a twist angle of liquid crystal mixture in the cell from alignment layer to alignment layer of 22.5-600[deg].
